Red Hot Chili Peppers Bass Guitarist Lists Malibu Home for $13.6 Million
Flea, the bass guitarist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has listed his home on a Malibu bluff at slightly more than $13.6 million.
The rocker, also known as Michael Balzary, plans to move to a Los Feliz home he bought about a year ago and just finished restoring. At the same time, he is expecting to break ground on a home he aims to build on a Malibu site he also owns.
That site is where he had a home that was "burnt to a crisp," he said, during the 2007 Malibu fire. At the time, the home was on the market at $4.8 million.
It is the bluff-top home he is focusing on selling now, however, and he facetiously described it in the Los Angeles Times as "the beautifulest residence of mega-fun and peace."
The property has expansive lawns, mature trees and two guest houses. There is a spa surrounded by a wooden observation deck. There is an outdoor living room plus a bar and a dining area.
Flea bought the home in 2006 for $9.98 million, according to the Multiple Listing Service.
A Lakers fan, Flea sang the national anthem and performed a guitar solo at a Houston Rockets play-off game.
Sherri Ann Rogers and Konstanine Valissarakos of Sotheby's International Realty in Los Feliz have the listing.
Actor Connor Trinneer, the commander on the TV prequel "Star Trek: Enterprise," and his wife, Ariana, have sold their Franklin Village Craftsman for $1.1 million.
The listing agent was Courtney Smith of Nourmand Associates in Hollywood. Ron M. Wolotzky of Rodeo Realty, Beverly Hills, represented the buyer.
David Niven, Jr. has put his Sunset Strip-area home on the market at $5.75 million.
David Niven Jr., 66, has a dozen producing credits and is former head of the William Morris Agency for Europe. He is former head of production for Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures, both based in London.
To a fan, however, Niven Jr. always will be the eldest son of the charming actor David Niven Sr.
Joyce Rey and Debra Smalley, both of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills, are the listing agents.
Actors Carole Lombard and William Powell called his villa home when the couple was married to each other the year they co-starred in "Man of the World" (1931).
Two years later, they filed for divorce. In 1936. they worked together again in "My Man Godrey", for which Powell won an Oscar nomination.
There is original ironwork in the house along with vaulted ceilings in the foyer and a grand staircase.
The listing agent is Tim Swan of Prudential California Realty, Beverly Hills.
British singer Leona Lewis, whose album "Spirit" premiered in North America at the Billboard 200 last year, is settling into the Hollywood Hills, where she has leased a contemporary-style home at almost $9,000 a month.
Designed for entertaining, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom house comes fully furnished and has living and dining rooms, a kitchen with glass doors opening to the backyard, a palm tree-lined outdoor living area, which includes a plasma TV and a dining area with a bar. Stone decks surround the swimming pool.
Lewis was nominated for the 2009 best pop album award. She was also nominated for best female pop vocal performance for the single "Bleeding Love."
The listing agent was Alexis Valentin of Sotheby's International Realty, Beverly Hills.
