Louisiana Picks ACS for $37.5M Rebuilding of 82,000 Affordable Rental Units
(DALLAS, TX) -- For the state of Louisiana, it was no contest. Its first and only choice again was Dallas, TX-based Affiliated Computer Services, Inc.
The New York Stock Exchange-traded company will administer the state of Louisiana's program to rebuild affordable rental property damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The two-year contract has a not-to-exceed amount of $37.5 million.
The Small Rental Property program is part of the Road Home Program program, the largest single housing recovery program in U.S. history, developed to help residents get back into a home or apartment as quickly and fairly as possible.
As the largest provider of business process solutions and one of the largest IT service providers to the nation's public sector, ACS serves as an operational partner to more than 1,700 government agencies on the federal, state, county and local level.
ACS will oversee construction as well as administer eligibility and grant determination for the Small Rental Property Program, which provides federal funding for property owners to repair their storm-damaged small-scale rental properties and rent them to low- and moderate-income tenants.
Created in 2006, the program has awarded more than $61 million in grants to rebuild more than 1,300 rental units.
Nearly 82,000 rental units received heavy damage from Katrina and Rita. The 82,000 units account for 40 percent of all housing damaged in the storms.
"By creating more affordable rental housing for the people of Louisiana, we can accelerate economic growth and recovery in the areas hit hardest by the storms," says Paul Rainwater, executive director of the Louisiana Recovery Authority. "ACS has a proven track record and the ability to quickly implement a solution to benefit program participants."
"For more than 25 years, ACS has provided the state of Louisiana with dependable, innovative services," says Joe Doherty, executive vice president and group president of ACS Government Solutions Group.
"Immediately after Hurricane Katrina, ACS assisted by providing critical services, including creation of the 1-888-LAHELPU citizen assistance line and ensuring that parents would receive child support payments in a timely manner. Through our agreement with the Louisiana Recovery Authority, ACS will continue to show its commitment to helping the residents of Louisiana in the recovery process," he says.
Doherty says "the work of ACS touches millions of people every day. ACS processes more than half of the nation's child support payments; manages 22 electronic payment card programs for state and federal clients, disbursing government payments and benefits; processes nearly 570 million Medicaid claims each year totaling more than $50 billion in provider payments; services student loans for more than 10 million borrowers; and facilitates more than 75 million online searches for unclaimed property per year."
ACS, a global FORTUNE 500 company with approximately 74,000 people supporting client operations reaching more than 100 countries, provides business process and information technology solutions to world-class commercial and government clients.
